Updates

I haven't posted much recently.

Here's some of the stuff that has happened in the past couple of months:

  • We spent about 3-4 weeks cleaning, two of those weeks were insane amounts of cleaning. It's a long story, but it's over with now. We threw out LOTS of stuff, some of which was not trash (like Brian's 5 brand new fish tank lights- oops). Now we just need to maintain it. Things are already starting to pile up... ick.

  • After a few months of resistance, I started taking a new med, methotrexate. I was worried about a lot of the side effects, such as getting sick (nausea/vomiting, along with extreme fatigue), mostly. It's used for cancer (yes, a chemotherapy drug), abortion (causes the body to absorb the fetus- while I'm not pregnant, still a bit disturbing), and autoimmune diseases, especially R.A.. I don't have R.A., but lupus. My biggest symptom is joint pain, though. Other effects can include cancer. Awesome, right?!

Well, after the 2nd dr. visit where he told me to start it, I decided to go ahead. He says the long-term side-effects would be less than prednisone, most likely. I think he also might take me off the Plaquenil. He asked how long I've been on it, I told him (10ish months, at the time). He seemed a little surprised. I'm thinking that he thinks if it hasn't helped more by now, that it wont (which is what I hear/have read).

So anyway, started the mtx. last week. I take it once a week, 3 pills. I took it Tuesday night, right before bed. This way, I reasoned, I might be able to sleep through the nausea. I also took a sleeping pill. Well, nothing happened. No barfing. Yay!! I was a bit tired the next day, but not sure if it was more than I would have been anyway. I took a 30 min nap. I think it might have actually helped. It might be too soon to tell, but I am encouraged.

  • My Dad is coming to visit tomorrow. He'll be here for a few days. I'm glad he is able to come. He hasn't seen Emma (or any of us, obviously), since... the wedding? Or maybe the summer after. I can't remember. I know he and Emma will get a chance to play and bond a lot more.
  • Emma started gymnastics again last week. She'd been asking for about a month or two, so I finally signed her up. I was thinking I owed a month of tuition from before when we didn't give a notice that she was leaving, but they said we didn't. She did really well. Her class is in the "big" part of the gym, as opposed to the "little kid" area for toddlers and preschoolers. It was neat watching her do all the stuff. She's also signed up for soccer, which starts at the end of the month.

  1. I didn't know you had lupus :(. I'm sorry! My friend has RA, and one of the things that helps is that we do water aerobics every week. Keeping active helps her from having awful flair ups, she just can't over do it. Is that an option where you live? I'm glad the meds didn't make you sick. I take my depression meds right before I go to sleep b/c they make me really nauseous. Now however I wake up and I'm awfully ill to my stomach. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks and I am definitely either getting new meds or taking a lower dose.

I feel a million times better when my house is cleaner, but unless we threw everything we owned on the floor, it wouldn't take us too long to clean. We finally have bookcases for our books, which is amazing since we can finally pull our books out of their boxes where they'd taken up residence!

I can't wait to sign my kids up for every freaking sport they can since my parents couldn't afford it for me, and it would have made a huge difference in how active I was growing up. I'm hoping b/c I'm obese that I don't go nuts attempting to keep my kids active in a fear that it will keep them from following.

  2. Yeah, I have lupus. I have been diagnosed for just over a year, but have been dealing with the symptoms for probably 3. Three is when I started going to doctors about my joint pain, anyway. I thought it might be RA, but nope. Water aerobics might be something worth trying. I have heard that activity is good (within reason, of course). I was a member of the local Y for about 6 months this past year, but stoped going.
Yes, I have put Emma in gymnastics and soccer. She would like to do other things, and so she might start something else soon. I do need more money coming in soon, though! She also is doing swimming lessons soon. I know what you mean about not going nuts. Moderation and healthy body/food/fitness attitudes are hard to pass on if you've never really had them (and I speak for myself here).

Oh, and for the mess... we have lived here 6 years. We've got 2 cats and 2 dogs, one a beagle "puppy" (he's 13 mo. now). Also have a 5 1/2 year old. These make messes so much worse! lol
